Yoga Cures Rheumatic Fever


Ayurveda, a science of life, states that Rheumatic fever occurs due to accumulated ama in combination with the aggravation of vata dosha and can be cured by its ayurvedic herbal formulations accompanied by modified diet, life style and a regular yogic practice which is tailored according to individual body constitution.

Yogic management of Rheumatic fever includes asanas (yogic postures), pranayama (breathing exercise), and Dhyana (meditation).

a) Asana : Asanas helps in removing the rigidity in the joints and brings flexibility to it by flushing out the blockages in the joints. It increases the blood circulation and tones up the muscles and the joint fluid is restored. It has a good effect on the total nervous system of the body and helps one to fight Rhematic disorders.

Asanas like Pawanmuktasana encourages the body to do a full range of movements and fully relaxes all the joints. It is advisable to soak the limbs in salt water before doing the asanas. Hala asana (the plough), Dhanur Asana (the bow), Ardhachakrasan (the half wheel), Prarambhik sthiti (base position), Padanguli Naman (toe bending), Ankle rotation, Vrikshasana (Ardha Chandrasana), Shashankasana, marjari-asana, shashank bhujangasana, and akarna dhanurasana. Vajrasana. Surya namaskar are also highly recommended.

b) Pranayama : This helps in doing the right technique of breathing and it includes abdominal breath, nadi shodhana and bhastrika which helps in boosting the digestive system.

c) Meditation : Helps one to release the suppressed emotional tensions and mental agitation, which is the chief reason for rheumatic fever and also gives a moral boost to the sufferer to deal with the fever more positive manner.

d) Yogic mudras helps to master any painful situation and it transforms the mental state to a more positive state and it drastically reduces intake of drugs.
